Beware of reckless drivers this vacation season

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2022 | Car Accidents

As summer comes, the people down in the cities begin to migrate north to spend the summer on the lakes. With an increase in drivers comes an increase in reckless drivers and the expensive accidents they can cause. To help you avoid reckless drivers, here are some tips to spotting dangerous drivers on the road this summer:

Speeding

This sign of a reckless driver is one of the hardest to notice, as the drivers can enter and exit your view in such a short amount of time. Keep an eye on your mirrors and look out for cars that are suddenly swerving or braking to avoid a speeding car. Once the speeder passes you, keep an eye for them down the road and any accidents they may create.

Swerving

Summer driving also sees an increase in drunk drivers. When drivers are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they can lose their ability to stay in their lane or drive in a straight line. If you see a driver swerving or drifting in their lane, there is a good chance it is not safe to drive near them.

Distracted

Cell phones, food, and GPS systems are all common distractions for drivers everywhere. When someone devotes even a portion of their attention to something other than driving, they endanger everyone around them. If you see a driver looking away from the road, eating, or talking on their phone, be sure to give them additional space while driving, so you have more time to react to any accidents they may cause.

Stay vigilant about your safety

Summer can be one of the most exciting times of year for anyone. Boating, fishing, and barbeques are great ways to spend the summer, but everyone needs to be sure they are safely getting to these events. If you see someone you suspect of being a reckless driver, put your safety first and keep your distance on the road.
